Second Annual Leadership Retreat

October 16 - 18: Students arrived at ACE Adventure Resort in Oak Hill, WV in time for a rustic dinner before listening to keynote speaker Josh Tetrick, followed by a 'structured socializing' activity where students spent time with fellow students they didn't know well.  The next morning, students navigated "The Power of Leadership" simulation that challenged their views of power, authority, and political efficacy.  After a successful simulation, they headed out to the Lower River and rafted their way to leadership.  After a pig roast that evening, local storyteller Karen Vuranch shared spooky stories of West Virginia while also discussing the importance of storytelling in selling policy ideas.  The weekend ended with a Sunday morning session where students and faculty together defined what they thought leadership was and what they wanted the Batten School leadership legacy to be.
