Friday, April 6

Admitted Students Weekend will officially kick off at 5:30p.m., with a welcome dinner on Charlottesville’s historic Downtown Mall. For those arriving Friday afternoon, we have two optional offerings:                   


2:00 - 3:15 p.m.

Optional Class, Public Policy Challenges of the 21st Century, Professor Gerry Warburg

Garrett Hall’s Great Hall 


3:30 – 4:30 p.m.           

Tours of UVA Grounds

University Guides will provide tours of the Rotunda and Academical Village on a rolling basis. If you would like a pre-dinner tour, please check in with Batten Staff in the lobby of Garrett Hall. Tours will leave from Garrett Hall every 30 minutes starting at 3:30, 4:00, and 4:30. 


5:00 p.m.                     

Travel to Downtown Mall

Take a ride on the Charlottesville Trolley accompanied by Batten Ambassadors from Grounds to the historic Downtown Mall. Meet Ambassadors in the lobby of Garrett Hall for a quick jaunt down Main Street. 


5:30 – 8:00 p.m.            

Welcome Dinner/Reception 

Charlottesville Downtown Mall

Meet with future classmates and current students while you enjoy dinner and a friendly game of trivia.

Enjoy a breakfast buffet with Batten Ambassadors and future classmates at the oldest building on the Lawn, Pavilion VII, also called the Colonnade Club.

Representatives from Batten’s research centers, student organizations, and support staff will give a short summary of their work. They will remain to continue discussing their work individually over lunch.


12:15 - 1:30 p.m.

Pick up a box lunch and visit with the speakers from the three-minute pitches and get a little one-on-one time to ask questions.


1:45 – 2:30 p.m.

Alumni Panel

Great Hall

Meet Batten alumni who are working in the public, private and non-profit sectors and ask them questions about their current positions, and how they’ve benefitted from the Batten MPP.

Monticello Tours & Closing Reception

Enjoy one last evening in Charlottesville with future classmates, staff, and faculty while touring Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello.



The Batten School will cover all room & taxes at UVA Inn at Darden for the night(s) of your visit, based on your distance from Charlottesville:

  • Charlottesville/Albemarle County residents: No lodging
  • Rest of Virginia, Washington DC, and southern Maryland residents: Batten will cover one night of stay 
  • All others: Batten will cover two nights of stay

  • For those of you arriving early (Thursday night) or staying longer (Sunday night), UVA Inn at Darden will honor the $150.00/night rate

  • Register as a UVA vendor using the link found here (takes 5 minutes). Note: there are two vendor links, please use the first one listed

  • Save your receipt from the UVA Inn at Darden 

  • Give your hotel receipt to a Batten Admissions staff member, or mail it to: ADMISSIONS 235 McCormick Road, The Batten School, Garrett Hall, Charlottesville, VA 22904

** Batten will only reimburse for room and tax paid for accommodations at the UVA Inn at Darden for the number of nights stated above.
