Friday, March 31

Admitted Students Weekend will officially kick off at 5:30p.m., with a welcome dinner on Charlottesville’s historic Downtown Mall. For those arriving Friday afternoon, we have two optional offerings:                   

 

2:00-3:15 p.m.

Optional Class, Race and Policy, with Mayor Michael Signer

Monroe Hall, Room 122

** If you would like to attend, please check in with Batten staff in Monroe Hall/Economics Building (see map for details) outside of Room 122 by 1:45 p.m.

                        

3:30 – 5:00 p.m.           

Tours of UVA Grounds

University Guides will provide tours of the Rotunda and Academical Village on a rolling basis. If you would like a pre-dinner tour, please check in with Batten Staff outside Pavilion IX of the UVA Lawn (see map for details).

 

5:00 p.m.                     

Travel to Downtown Mall

Take a ride on the Charlottesville Trolley accompanied by Batten Ambassadors from Grounds to the historic Downtown Mall. Meet Ambassadors on the street-side (University Blvd.) of the Rotunda for a quick jaunt down Main Street.

 

5:30 – 8:00 p.m.            

Welcome Dinner/Reception - Water Street Restaurant, 117 5th St SE

Charlottesville Downtown Mall

Meet with future classmates and current students while you enjoy dinner and a friendly game of trivia.

Enjoy a breakfast buffet with Batten Ambassadors and future classmates at the oldest building on the Lawn, Pavilion VII, also called the Colonnade Club.

In advance of “Office Hours,” representatives from Batten’s research centers, student organizations, and support staff will give a short summary of their work.

 

12:15 - 2:00 p.m.             

Lunch & “Office Hours” 

Garrett Hall 

Pick up a box lunch and make your way around to office hours to visit (maps will be provided) with the speakers from the three-minute pitches and get a little one-on-one time to ask questions.

 

2:00 – 2:45  p.m.

Alumni Panel

Great Hall

Meet Batten alumni who are working in the public, private and non-profit sectors and ask them questions about their current positions.

 

3:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Guest Speaker: The Honorable Evan Bayh, former Governor and U.S. Senator

Depart for Monticello

Monticello Tours & Closing Reception

Enjoy one last evening in Charlottesville with future classmates, staff, and faculty while touring Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello.

 

Lodging

The Batten School will cover all room & taxes for the night(s) of your visit, based on your distance from Charlottesville:

  • Virginia, Washington DC, and southern Maryland residents: Batten will cover one night of stay at the Residence Inn Downtown in Charlottesville
  • All others: Batten will cover two nights stay at the Residence Inn Downtown Charlottesville
