Jill Rockwell, Senior Assistant Dean for Student and Career Services, oversees the administrative units of admissions, student affairs, and career services, working with the other members of the student services team to strengthen students’ co-curricular and career-related experiences at the Batten School. Before joining the Batten School in 2008, Rockwell spent nearly a decade working at Duke Law School, both in career advising and as the law school’s Associate Dean of Students. Prior to these positions, she practiced employment law at the Chicago office of Littler Mendelson and served as the Director of Career Advising and co-director of publications at the University of Illinois College of Law. Barbara Hampton is the Batten School’s Director of Career Services. A "Double ’Hoo," Barbara earned a master's degree in Counselor Education in 2003 from the Curry School of Education, specializing in Student Affairs Practice in Higher Education, and a BA in Psychology and Spanish in 2001 from UVa’s College of Arts & Sciences. With a long-standing passion for helping students attain internships and jobs, Barbara has worked at UVa's University Career Services (UCS) from 2003-2013 in various roles, including Extern Coordinator, Career Counselor for Experiential Learning, Assistant and Associate Director of Employer Services, and, most recently, as the Director of Employer Services. For almost six years, she managed the CAVLink recruiting system and directed employer relations to provide networking opportunities for UVa students through the On-Grounds Interviewing (OGI) program, Government and Non-Profit Career Expo, New York Recruiting Alliance, and other university-wide career fairs. During Barbara’s time at UCS, she was also actively involved in several professional associations, including the Virginia Association of Colleges and Employers (VACE). James Paradis, Career Services Coordinator, provides administrative support to the Student and Career Services Team, placing a greater focus this coming academic year on student advising and employer relations, while also working on internal communications and executing major school events and workshops. James is a graduate from the University of Virginia Class of 2008, earning a BA in Psychology and Music. While a student at UVa, he was highly involved in the on-Grounds service community, holding leadership roles in Alpha Phi Omega and Alternative Spring Break and leading service trips to India and the Gulf Coast. In 2008-2009, he served in the Americorps City Year program, tutoring, mentoring, and developing educational programming for students in DC Public Schools. He went on to attain his master's degree in Education Policy from The George Washington University in 2011 while interning at the Institute for Higher Education Policy.
