Chairman of McGuireWoods Consulting LLC and a partner with McGuireWoods LLP


Mark T. Bowles joins the Foundation Board as the Board of Visitors representative. Currently a Chairman of McGuireWoods Consulting LLC and a partner with McGuireWoods LLP, Mark was one of the founding senior vice presidents when McGuireWoods Consulting started in 1998. As a lawyer and consultant, Mark’s practice focuses on providing strategic counsel and policy advice to businesses and organizations with issues before Virginia’s legislature and regulatory agencies.

Mark’s practice includes government relations and public affairs. He works with clients on a variety of issues, including healthcare, energy, technology, higher education and environmental law. Mark has led state, regional and national public policy efforts on behalf of McGuireWoods Consulting clients. He has also been engaged in a number of successful pro bono legislative initiatives, including “Ashley’s Law,” the Federation of Virginia Food Banks, and the Tangier Island Free Clinic.

Prior to joining McGuireWoods, Mark served as chief of staff to Rep. L.F. Payne (D-VA) and was counsel to a multi-state utility. He served as an assistant attorney general in Virginia for four years after graduating from law school.

With more than 35 years of experience in Virginia politics, Mark has managed two statewide campaigns, a congressional campaign, and numerous legislative races. Mark served on the finance committee for the McAuliffe for Governor campaign and as the finance co-chair for the inauguration of Governor Terry McAuliffe. Most recently, Mark served as co-chair of the Northam for Governor campaign and as co-chair of the Northam inaugural committee.
