Batten Hour: Dr. Robert Welsh

Dr. Robert Welsh was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After receiving his undergraduate degree, a Bachelor of Science in Physics, from Georgetown University, he served two years in the United States Air Force as an active duty nuclear weapons officer. He then returned to school to obtain his Ph.D. in Nuclear Physics from the University of Pennsylvania. He was subsequently an instructor and Assistant Director of the Nuclear Research Center at Carnegie Mellon University back in his hometown of Pittsburgh.  

He currently teaches at the College of William and Mary as a Professor of Physics. He also served as a visiting professor at Oxford University. Welsh has also worked at Rutherford High Energy Positions Laboratory, CERN (European Center for Nuclear Research), and as the Student Affairs Office Director at the Jefferson Laboratory.

Welsh will be bringing a functional enigma machine with him as part of his presentation.
