The Batten School is proud to join the Office of Diversity and Equity to co-sponsor Joy Reid’s keynote address for the Community MLK Celebration. Reid is a national correspondent for MSNBC, host of “AM Joy” and “The Reid Report," and the author of the book Fracture: Barack Obama, the Clintons and the Racial Divide (William Morrow). A free pre-event reception will begin at 5:30pm.

The Accelerated Master of Public Policy program allows students to earn a Bachelor’s degree and a Master of Public Policy degree in a total of five years of coursework. This program is available to students from all undergraduate majors at the University of Virginia.

This year’s event promises to offer the most rewarding and memorable programming to-date, featuring a weekend of events designed to explore “Leadership Through Turbulent Times.” Featuring a keynote address from Dr. Cheryl LaRoche, one of the nation’s foremost experts on the Underground Railroad, and a “Staff Ride” on the Gettysburg Battlefield led by Tom Donnelly, AEI defense and security policy analyst, we also will find time for snow tubing, hot chocolate, and more at the Liberty Mountain Ski Resort.

Join the Batten School as we hear from Dr. Jennifer Kates in a seminar jointly sponsored by the UVA Division of Infectious Diseases & International Health and the UVA Center for Health Policy. Dr. Kates is the Vice President and Director of Global Health and HIV Policy at the Kaiser Family Foundation. She will be speaking about health coverage for people with HIV in an era of uncertainty.
