Our Batten community is dedicated to making lasting change in their communities, and with the one-on-one support from our Career Services team, our students have reported some of the highest career placement and first destination rates across the University. We asked some of our students what their career goals are and how they have utilized the Batten Career Center, and below are a few student responses about our amazing Career Services team, Hannah, Steve, and Jill!

“My hope is to go into state politics or the private-sector. With these in mind, the Career Center at Batten helped me find an internship in my policy area of choice amid the pandemic when my internship plans fell through. Since, they have been a big support system with checking my resume and helping point me in the best places to find available jobs as I work to transition out of Batten and into the workforce.”

  • Morgan, MPP Class of 2021

“I’m going into a career in intelligence and have felt very supported by the Batten Career Center. They have helped with interview prep, as well as support and advice through the background investigation process.”

  • Madeline, BA Class of 2021

“I’m hoping to leverage data in policy to improve healthcare and refugee policy outcomes. The career center has been immeasurably helpful, from consulting about resumes and interviews to pulling all the strings they could to get us internships at the onset of the pandemic. Shoutout to Hannah Guffey!”

  • Christian, MPP Class of 2021

“I’ve worked as a Government Relations Intern for 2 associations and so many skills and lessons I’ve learned in my Batten classes have directly translated to work projects. I am amazed at how close Batten assignments match real-world skills and scenarios.”

  • Caleigh, rising second-year BA student

My career goals change frequently, but Batten has been there every step of the way. This year has been especially hard to find internship opportunities, but Batten provides students with so many resources to find something interesting. The Batten Career Center connected me with alumni from places I was interviewing, and gave me the resources to succeed at interviews. I am to say that I will be interning at a public policy think tank this summer, and I don’t think I would have gotten this opportunity without Batten.
