Batten Graduate and Rising NBA Star Malcolm Brogdon (MPP ’16) Has Number Retired

Batten School graduate Malcolm Brogdon receives his Batten MPP degree in center court ceremony February 20, 2017. This presentation was part of his jersey retirement ceremony as the NBA draft forced Malcolm to miss final exercises. Malcolm currently ranks among the top NBA rookies and continues to prepare for a career in public policy after his work with the Milwaukee Bucks.

On Monday night, Malcolm Brogdon was surprised with a framed copy of his Batten MPP degree while he became the 8th player ever on the UVA basketball team to have his number retired. In the special center court presentation, Brogdon was awarded his diploma by Dean Allan Stam during a ceremony recognizing his accomplishments on and off the court.

While he graduated this past Spring, Brogdon initially missed final exercises while participating in the NBA draft. When he left UVA last year he was ranked ninth on the team’s all-time scoring list and had played in 136 games. He now plays for the Milwaukee Bucks and leads all NBA rookies in assists, steals and 3 point percentage. After his NBA career, is over Brogdon plans to start his career in public policy and focus on clean water issues in the developing world.

Malcolm Brogdon has not only showed dedication on the court, but his commitment to service and helping others is a shining example not only to Batten students, but to the entire University.
