On Sept. 25, Batten School professor Jay Shimshack gave the keynote presentation at the Latin American Environmental and Energy Economics workshop, hosted by the economics department at Centro de Investigacion y Docencia Economicas (CIDE). CIDE is one of Mexico’s premier academic institutions for the study of economics and social sciences. Shimshack’s presentation, “Environmental Enforcement and Compliance: Lessons from Economics and Beyond,” will focus on lessons learned in the U.S. policy arena.

The two-day conference, which took place in Aguascalientes, Mexico, focuses on connecting with academicians who have made valuable contributions to policy making in different countries. The conference creates a platform for the exchange of ideas on the research frontier in the field. Participants focused on pressing public policy issues and emerging research in environmental, resource and energy economics. The workshop also provides networking opportunities for faculty and graduate students interested in pursuing research in Latin America energy and environmental economics related issues.
