Blurred Borders: Making Sense of the European Migration Crisis

The current immigration crisis in Europe is the largest since the end of World War II. Join us as Professor David Leblang discusses the causes of the crisis, the determinants and geography of migrant and refugee flows into Europe, and the responses of destination countries across Western Europe.

Leblang is Professor of Politics at the University of Virginia and is a Faculty Associate at the Miller Center where he is the J. Wilson Newman Professor of Governance. He is also a Professor of Public Policy at the University’s Batten School where he directs the Global Policy Center. Since 2010 he has served as Department Chair of the Department of Politics. A scholar in the area of international political economy, he has expertise in international immigration, financial crises, and international political economy.

Isabelle Merritt is a fourth year undergraduate student at the University of Virginia. She is double majoring in History and Global Studies: Security and Justice and has been assisting Professor Leblang with research since May 2015. She is investigating German perceptions and reactions towards the migration crisis for her undergraduate Global Studies: Security and Justice thesis.
