The first group of Shannon Center Mid-Career Fellows represents faculty from nine of the University’s schools. The fellowship honors tenured faculty members, nominated by their deans, who have made significant contributions to their departments and schools, but are not yet chairholders of endowed professorships.
“With the launch of the Shannon Mid-Career Fellows program, we are taking an important step to foster excellence and build an interdisciplinary community of distinguished scholars who are rising leaders in their schools and their fields,” said Executive Vice President and Provost Ian Baucom in announcing the program launch and this year’s cohort.
“I’m deeply honored to have been named a Shannon Fellow. It means so much to carry on the legacy of the many UVA faculty who have benefited from the efforts of the Shannon Center for Advanced Studies,” said Holbein. “I plan on putting this fellowship to good use by studying how to improve our democracy, both in the research I am working on and in the classroom.”
