The “Personal-as-Political” Shapes a Global Leader

In her conversation with Dean Ian Solomon at this week's Batten Hour, lawyer, scholar and global leader Anne-Marie Slaughter reflected on how the country can move forward from this moment of extreme political polarization and economic and environmental uncertainty across the globe.

Scholar, lawyer, and global leader Anne-Marie Slaughter, CEO of New America, was our featured speaker Batten Hour this week. In her conversation with UVA Batten Dean Ian H. Solomon before a packed audience in the Great Hall, she reflected on how the country can move forward from this moment of extreme polarization and economic and environmental uncertainty across the globe. Slaughter has served as the dean of Princeton University’s School of Public and International Affairs and as a faculty member at the law schools at Harvard University and the University of Chicago. In 2009, she was appointed the first woman director of policy planning for the U.S. State Department.
