A new report from the Virginia Impact Investing Forum, housed within Batten’s SE@UVA, found $19 billion in Virginia impact capital but tens of billions more on the sidelines that could be unlocked with more convening, training, and sharing of success stories. Christine Mahoney, director of SE@UVA explains how universities can connect the dots between impact investors and social entrepreneurs and do it in a cost-efficient way.

Batten’s Bala Mulloth and chemical engineering professor Gaurav Giri, co-founders of Hava Inc., are one of nine design teams commissioned to provide the public with a glimpse into the future of home furnishings and objects for a show titled Hybrid at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney, Australia.


Batten's Kurien Thomas (BA '21) and fellow UVA student Sasha Duckworth started a company called “Pick-Me-Up” that uses text messaging and virtual support groups to help users with their mental health.


SE@UVA Speaker Series presents distinguished author and entrepreneur Alex Counts. Join us as Counts discusses his new books “Changing the World Without Losing Your Mind: Leadership Lessons From Three Decades of Social Entrepreneurship” and “When in Doubt, Ask for More: And 213 Other Life and Career Lessons for the Mission-Driven Leader.”


Teams of eager students will join our expert facilitators for a design sprint on ways that innovative startups can respond to the new environment we find ourselves in due to the pandemic. They will review ideas submitted by alumni and partners as jumping off points to design around for the Social Entrepreneurship Track of the UVA Entrepreneurship Cup and Fall Social Entrepreneurship courses. 


A team of faculty that includes Batten professor Bala Mulloth have been awarded $110,000 for their proposal titled “Technology Driven Entrepreneurial Solutions to Address Healthcare Worker Protection Needs.”
