5 Things to Do to Prepare for the Application Workshop

Follow these five helpful things you can do now to make the most of your appointment at our upcoming workshop!

With the Batten Application Workshop co-hosted by Batten Ambassadors, Black Student Leaders in Policy, and the Batten Latinx Network happening this week, we wanted to pass along five helpful things you can do now to make the most of your appointment!

  1. Review Sample Applications

These sample applications for the BA, minor, and Accelerated MPP program walk you through everything connected with the application, from how to create your online account to what you should put in each section of the application. You can use these as a great first place to turn if you have a question!

  1. Read our FAQ’s

Did you know our website’s frequently asked questions includes answers to application questions? This resource will help answer questions you might not have known to ask, including which internet browser works best with our application.

  1. Connect with the Career Center

The Career Center at UVA is the gold standard when it comes to resume reviews! Even though the pandemic has halted their normal drop-in operations at 15|15 and Newcomb Hall, you can still connect with the Career Center for reviews. They are offering a number of virtual appointment options, including a 24-7 virtual resume review through VMOCK!

  1. Make an outline of your essay(s)

While the deadline for the application is still months away, it is not too early to start thinking about your essays! The Ambassadors are a great sounding board for the essays, so take a look at the questions for the BA, minor, and Accelerated MPP applications before you attend the workshop. You can have a few big ideas, an outline, or even rough drafts, and the Ambassadors can help you leverage your ideas for a great essay.

  1. Watch this helpful video from Anne Carter Mulligan

Batten’s Director of Undergraduate Admissions Anne Carter Mulligan put together a quick twelve-minute video discussing the Batten application and review process. This video will help you craft the best possible application to the school!

If you do these five things before the workshop, you will be in great shape! We look forward to seeing you on Friday!

Can’t attend the workshop? Considering coming to one of our upcoming Ambassador Open Office Hours (most Fridays from 10 AM – 12 PM and 2 – 4 PM)!
