Batten Welcomes New Faculty

New Batten faculty will be teaching classes in social entrepreneurship, policy analysis and education policy, among others.

This fall, the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy welcomed three new scholars to the faculty. They will be teaching classes in social entrepreneurship, policy analysis and education policy, among others. Each one has published research in reputable journals and presented at academic conferences in the past.

Bala Mulloth specializes in social entrepreneurship and is joining the Batten School from Hungary’s Central European University Business School. Mulloth’s research focuses on entrepreneurship and innovation with a specific interest in clean technology innovation. He received his Ph.D. in Technology Management from Polytechnic Institute of New York University. He recently contributed a chapter on higher education and entrepreneurship in the book, “The Entrepreneurial University: Context and Institutional Change.”

Andrew Pennock joins the Batten School from Brown University. Pennock’s research explores issues of public policy in the global economy and his applied work delves into state and local policy issues. He earned a Ph.D. from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and specializes in policy analysis. Pennock has a forthcoming article coming out in PS: Political Science & Politics.

An expert in education policy, Daniel Player also teaches at the U.Va. Curry School of Education, where he contributes to the Center on Education Policy and Workforce Competitiveness. His research focuses on teacher labor markets and school turnarounds. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Washington. His work has appeared in academic journals such as the Economics of Education Review, the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management, and Education Finance and Policy.
