UVA Batten Student Organizations

BUC’s mission is to facilitate relationships and dialogue between students, faculty, and administrators. It also seeks to establish connections with the larger University and local community, as well as national organizations, foster students’ professional development and alumni relationships, and maintain an active role in admissions.

The BGC represents the interests, ambitions, and academic needs specific to the graduate students enrolled in the Batten School to the larger University of Virginia community, in particular to the Batten School administration, faculty, alumni, and other student organizations.

FCG is a student-led organization at the University of Virginia’s Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy that offers both undergraduate and graduate students hands-on, real-world, consultative project management experience. FCG students partner with community-engaged, mission-driven organizations (often non-profits) in the Charlottesville area to learn from these organizations and offer support and assistance on consulting projects.

A community-driven club for Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy LGBTQ+ and allied students, PRIDE provides space to promote and discuss policy affecting the LGBTQ+ community, as well as a safe and supportive environment for students, faculty, and community members.

The Virginia Policy Review is a student-run policy journal that strives to publish work that will impact the wider policy debate. VPR accomplishes this through a variety of journalistic mediums including research, opinion pieces, interviews, and a podcast, as well as a print publication in the spring of each year.

The Batten Asian Alliance was established to create a welcoming and inclusive community for Batten students who identify as Asian Pacific Islander South Asian American (APISAA). It was also created for fostering members’ academic and career success through collaborations with the Batten Student Services and Admissions Teams and promoting culture awareness and understanding in the Batten community through cultural celebrations and educational events with APISAA speakers.

BLN’s mission is to foster community amongst Latinx students at the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy and to support students in their academic, social, and professional pursuits. BLN welcomes and recruits prospective undergraduate and graduate Latinx students, hosts professional development events, and maintains relationships with Latinx alumni. BLN also facilitates the discussion of policy issues relating to the Latinx community both in America and abroad.

BSLIP aims to employ policy analysis and leadership skills to support and empower the Black Student Leaders in Public Policy and the UVA Black community. They seek to uplift members and the UVA Black community through promoting equity in academics, providing resources to further success, and creating safe spaces for Black voices in policy.

The Women in Policy Club empowers women and allies interested in public policy, public service, and leadership. Through professional development, networking, mentorship, speaker events, and community-building initiatives, the club seeks to increase awareness of the Batten School’s undergraduate and graduate programs while fostering a diverse and supportive policy community at UVA.
