Jay Shimshack is Associate Professor of Public Policy and Economics at the University of Virginia. He received a Ph.D. from UC Berkeley and a B.S. from Cornell University. Prior to joining UVA, Shimshack held positions at Tulane University and Tufts University, and he held a visiting faculty fellowship at the University of Michigan. His major fields are environmental regulation, environmental economics and applied microeconomics for public policy. Specific research interests include the monitoring and enforcement of environmental laws; corporate social responsibility; information and transparency as policy; and environmental health. He is co-editor of the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, and his academic research has been published in Economic Inquiry, the Journal of Economic Literature, the Journal of Health Economics and elsewhere. He has written several white papers for the EPA, testified before the U.S. House of Representatives and published numerous policy-oriented book chapters and outreach reports.
