Rick Campanelli has an extensive career in public service and in the private sector, in senior leadership, policy and management positions and as legal counsel in the areas of healthcare, information privacy and security, civil and First Amendment rights. He teaches the core course, Integrating Ethics in Public Policy, at the University of Virginia Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy, and he is the Center for Christian Study Director of Graduate Ministries for the Law and Darden Christian Fellowships.

Before his work at the Batten School, Campanelli served as legal counsel and advisor to major corporations, tax exempt organizations and ministries and in senior policy and management positions at the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services and Department of Justice. He also has served as counsel and on boards of nationwide nonprofit organizations. Campanelli is a member of the Board of Advisors of the University of Virginia Frank S. Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy. He has served as Trustee of the Certification Commission on Health Information Technology and taught Nonprofit Law, Governance and Ethics at the George Mason University Graduate School of Public Administration. He is also an active member of the Virginia Bar. Along with teaching, Mr. Campanelli is Director of Graduate Ministries for the Center for Christian Study in Charlottesville, and is a speaker at national conferences on privacy, technology, ethics and First Amendment protections.

He received his BA in Economics from The University of Virginia and his JD from the University of Virginia School of Law.
