Feb 23, 2023 | 11:30 am Great Hall, Garrett Hall REGISTER Dr. Deborah Stroman, lecturer at Batten, hosts a Black History Month modified-version of Jeopardy, one of the most popular game shows in US history, on Friday, February 24 at 11:30 a.m. here at Batten. Join in the fun at this trivia-based contest on Black culture, which will pit two teams competing for prizes. All are welcome to observe and be automatically eligible for raffle items. Team formation, categories, and rules will be shared at the beginning of the game. Requirements: Desire to have fun, learn, and connect with other students! Dr. Deborah Stroman Dr. Stroman is an enthusiastic entrepreneur and educator at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Virginia. She is a national speaker committed to real talk and strategies that engender intention, change, and innovation. Her instructional focus and experience lie in the leadership domains of Equity, Entrepreneurship, and Sport Business. Her company, SAAM LLC, provides consulting services for organizations (profit and nonprofit) purposed to drive institutional and community change. As a strong advocate for fairness and justice for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities, she is also a national trainer with Racial Equity Institute LLC, which provides historical context and a racial analysis to better understand and address structural racism. She also co-authored ProInspire’s Self to Systems: Leading for Race Equity Impact model. At the University of North Carolina, she has a faculty appointment at the prestigious Gillings School of Global Public Health, whereby her racial equity education expertise is applied as an instructor and advisor in the graduate concentration of Health Equity, Social Justice, and Human Rights. In addition, she is the Senior Equity Advisor for the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Education Director of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Research Program (DEIR) for the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research. Dr. Stroman designed and taught the first and only racial equity course for MBA students and has assisted in the implementation of racial equity workshops across campus (including the School of Medicine). The state of North Carolina NAACP 2021 Woman of the Year, Dr. Stroman is a leading advocate for innovation and racial equity in higher education, the sports industry, and business in the United States.
