Lead with Purpose

The UVA Batten Minor in Social Entrepreneurship will teach you how to create system-level change through the application of entrepreneurial thinking to social ventures, nonprofit organizations, government institutions, and NGOs to create economic, environmental, and social value for multiple stakeholders. This minor is one of three concentrations within the Entrepreneurship Minor at UVA, which is administratively hosted within the McIntire School of Commerce.

In this minor program, you will:

  • Take electives across many different schools at UVA, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and design thinking to create the most innovative solutions to real world problems
  • Gain unique access to one-on-one advising in academics, internship funding, careers with impact and startup ideas for social good
  • Focus on impact investing, entrepreneurial approaches to global development and equity-based leadership

Admissions & Degree Requirements

  • When to apply: Students typically apply during their second or third years.
  • Who can apply: Current UVA undergraduate students who have completed or are enrolled in Startup: An Introduction to Entrepreneurship (ENTP 1010) and are in good academic standing according to their school of enrollment. Students should apply to the Entrepreneurship Minor through the McIntire School and indicate the social entrepreneurship concentration on their application.
  • To graduate: Minor consists of 15 credit hours to include ENTP 1010, a core and capstone course, plus two electives
Prerequisites

Students must complete Startup: An Introduction to Entrepreneurship (ENTP 1010) to gain access to the Entrepreneurship Minor application.
