Mayor Brindle has drawn upon her role as the first woman in HBO's C-suite to serve as a mentor to emerging female leaders and entrepreneurs, as well as, apply her leadership and operating skills to serve as Mayor of her hometown. Shelley Brindle Shelley Brindle is the Mayor of Westfield, NJ, serving her second term as the Town’s first female mayor following an accomplished career as a C-suite HBO operating executive. Mayor Brindle unseated a three term incumbent with her commitment to bringing visionary leadership and private sector best practices to modernize local government and improve the economic outlook of Westfield’s historic downtown. Previously, she served as HBO’s Executive Vice President, Domestic Network Distribution & Marketing and a member of the CEO’s leadership team. She led HBO’s $4.4B domestic subscription business and oversaw HBO's digital transformation and its most lucrative strategic partnerships with major media distributors. As the first female in HBO’s C-suite, Ms. Brindle was known as a driving force for bold ideas in the media industry, having established a new vision for monetizing content, distribution, and marketing, paving the way for the launch of HBO’s streaming services and sparking a sweeping disruption of the traditional media landscape. She was inducted as a 2022 Cable Pioneer in acknowledgement of her contributions to the media industry. After leading many of HBO’s industry defining innovations, Mayor Brindle sought to pivot from her C-suite position and apply her experience to a new chapter with broader social impact, which led to public service and her current position as Mayor. She was named the 2022 Mayor of the Year by the Gateway Regional Chamber of Commerce, and was previously awarded the Innovation in Governance Award by the NJ League of Municipalities where she serves on the Executive Board. Mayor Brindle also serves on the Board of Directors at Philo, a series D venture capital funded next generation streaming tv service that has grown exponentially since she led HBO’s early investment. She also serves on the Board of Directors for W.O.M.E.N. In America (WIA), as a Global Ambassador for Vital Voices, is a founding member of Extraordinary Women on Boards (EWOB), and serves as an advisor and mentor to the University of Chicago’s Leadership & Society Initiative and as a Senior Fellow at the McDonald’s Conference for Leaders of Character at the US Military Academy. Mayor Brindle is a graduate of the University of Virginia where she met her husband Kip. They live in Westfield, where they’ve raised their three children, and currently reside with their two rescue dogs and any number of foster dogs waiting for their forever home.
