About Events Juneteenth Celebration and Reflection with Dean Ian Solomon Juneteenth Celebration and Reflection with Dean Ian Solomon June 20, 2022 / 8:30-11:00AM Pavilion X, UVA Lawn This Monday, June 20, join Dean Ian Solomon for a morning reflection and celebration in recognition of the Juneteenth holiday. Beginning at 8:45AM, Dean Solomon will lead a 15-minute mediation in the garden of Pavilion X, followed by 30 minutes of reading, reflection and conversation exploring the history, context and personal meaning of Juneteenth. Attendees will then be invited to tour Dean Solomon’s exhibit, “Uncovering History: Exploring the Untold Stories of Pavilion X” in the Pavilion X cellar. The exhibit will remain open until 11:00AM. Breakfast will be provided in the garden beginning at 8:30AM and drop-ins are welcome throughout the morning. This event is free and open to the public. Annually, June 19—otherwise known as “Juneteenth” or “Freedom Day”—is a day of celebration and reflection commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. Because Juneteenth falls on Sunday this year, the official holiday observance for the University will be Monday, June 20. Ian H. Solomon Ian H.
