Batten Welcomes Four Scholars to the Faculty

The Batten School has begun a multi-year hiring initiative with the addition of four outstanding scholars who will begin their appointments this fall: Abigail Scholer, Kyle Dobson, Gerald Higginbotham and Ashley Jardina

Abigail Scholer,  Professor of Public Policy and Leadership

Abigail Scholer, Professor of Public Policy and Leadership, without term, and Batten Family Bicentennial Distinguished Leadership Professor of Public Policy. She received her Ph.D. from Columbia University in 2009. She comes to Batten from the University of Waterloo where she is professor of psychology. Scholer has held a Canada Research Chair in Motivated Social Cognition since 2012.

Kyle Dobson

 Kyle Dobson, Assistant Professor of Public Policy and Leadership

Dobson is a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Texas at Austin’s Population Research Center. He received his Ph.D. from Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in 2020.

Gerald Higginbotham

Gerald Higginbotham,  Assistant Professor of Public Policy 

He has been at Batten since 2021 as a diversity, equity, and inclusion postdoctoral research associate.  His research focuses on the role of culture and identity in education and politics. Higginbotham received his Ph.D. in Psychology from UCLA in 2021.

Ashley Jardina, Assistant Professor of Public Policy

Ashley Jardina, Assistant Professor of Public Policy. Jardina has most recently been an associate professor of political science at George Mason University’s Schar School of Policy and Government. Before this, she was an assistant professor in the department of political science at Duke University. She received her Ph.D. in political science in 2014 from the University of Michigan.
