Forging Fortitude: Building the Skills to Thrive in Adversity

Back by popular demand, the Batten School is thrilled to once again offer a custom leadership workshop for UVA coaches interested in developing and teaching resiliency. “Forging Fortitude: Building the Skills to Thrive in Adversity,” led by Batten professor Tim Davis, is scheduled to be held in person for those who have been vaccinated.

This workshop is specifically designed to help UVA coaches develop personal-professional resilience skills and to teach those same skills to student-athletes. Over the course of four days, participants will be guided through an exploration of key scientifically-supported skills of emotional resilience — competencies that help people bounce back from setbacks and disappointments, whether athletic, personal or otherwise. These are many of the same skills that support psychological thriving and wellness, including: building close connections with others (including players and fellow coaches), taming toxic thoughts, introductory mindfulness and meaning-making.

The workshop will take place Thursday, June 9, and Friday, June 10, from 8:30am–2:30pm each day. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
