Michael McKenzie is a Partner & Managing Director at Grain Management, LLC, a leading private equity firm focused on investments in the global communications sector.  At Grain, Michael focuses on investments in communications infrastructure and technology, including fiber optic networks, spectrum, wireless towers, data centers and related technologies.  Prior to joining Grain, Michael helped shape U.S. communications policy in areas such as broadband deployment, spectrum and emerging mobile technologies as a top official at the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Before that, Michael held executive roles in strategy and business development at Microsoft Corp., where he focused on the commercialization of emerging platforms (e.g., mobile, cloud). He began his career practicing communications and technology law at Silicon Valley’s Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati and Washington D.C.’s WilmerHale, after clerking for Judge Theodore A. McKee on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.

Michael graduated with distinction (Phi Beta Kappa) from the University of Virginia and received his J.D. from Harvard Law School. He serves on the board of directors of Summit Broadband, Hunter Communications and WANRack, LLC and is a member of the Economic Club of Washington D.C. and the Council on Foreign Relations.
