Racial Justice and Equity Featured Research Craig Volden Good morning and happy Friday! So we are ready to roll out a new featured research highlight for the quarter (ish – I use that term loosely). Starrie: We are going to link off the homepage with the attached graphic, replacing Eileen’s Unpacking the Black Box. The text should say “Understanding Legislative Effectiveness: Do Voters Care?” Then we need to link to a whole new page – that is similar, honestly, to the DEI landing page you had created so hopefully it won’t be too hard to put together? This is getting us to the portfolio style landing page for research we had discussed when I first came on board as Faculty Comms Specialist. I’d love the page to have the following elements, in order perhaps? NEW RESEARCH: Do constituents know (or care) about the lawmaking effectiveness of their representatives? Link to -https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/political-science-research-and-methods/article/abs/do-constituents-know-or-care-about-the-lawmaking-effectiveness-of-their-representatives/27D2131C423FED666198B9A008F9D676 Teaser text: Substantial evidence exists that members of the US Congress vary in their lawmaking effectiveness. Less known, however, is whether constituents are sufficiently informed and inclined to hold their representatives accountable, based on their effectiveness. NEW RESEARCH: Primary Path for Turning Legislative Effectiveness into Success Link to - https://www.journals.uchicago.edu/doi/10.1086/718974#.YnvMv503JwE.twitter Teaser text: Effective lawmakers are the workhorses of the US Congress, yet we know little about the electoral payoffs of their efforts. Are effective lawmakers better at warding off challengers in the next election? Do they win at a greater rate? Learn more about Legislative Effectiveness and Find Your Representative’s Score (link to CEL homepage thelawmakers.org, can include CEL logo) Then a module pulling all “news” on Volden Then a module pulling all “democracy” related research (both working papers and published research) I thought it might be fun to include events on democracy, but not sure we have any? Please feel free to use your creativity, though! This is all new but I also don’t want to recreate the wheel. Honestly, we want to get this content up as soon as possible given the upcoming elections, but I know that you are super swamped. Can you please let me know what a reasonable expectation would be for a timeline? Thanks so much, as always, for everything you do. I am excited to see how this portfolio idea could potentially be a more powerful asset for our website! I am around today (working from home) if there are questions. Best, -a.
