At the Batten School, she focuses on helping students develop effective advocacy strategies and implementing public policy, with a particular interest in the coordination of policy and programs that serve vulnerable populations of children and families. Ms. Lehmann is a clinical social worker and public interest attorney with professional expertise in the areas of children’s health, education, and child welfare. At Capitolworks, she manages multi-million dollar local, state, and federal advocacy campaigns and provides legislative analysis and strategy expertise to clients who serve vulnerable populations of children, youth, and families. On behalf of her clients, Ms. Lehmann has worked to secure numerous pieces of federal legislation including several provisions within the Affordable Care Act, established newly authorized federal programs and worked with partner coalitions towards the passage of legislation such as the Children’s Health Insurance Program. In addition, Ms. Lehmann has held hundreds of meetings with congressional staff, designed and implemented dozens of congressional briefings, roundtables, and receptions, executed numerous advocacy days for grassroots members and helped to train thousands of individuals across the country to become advocates at the federal level A national expert on the design, development, and reform of pediatric health/mental health services, special education and child welfare systems, her work addresses policies ranging from school-based health care to international crisis support for children and families. In post-earthquake Haiti, her efforts brought volunteers from around the world to deliver psychosocial services in both medical and non-medical sites. Additionally, Ms. Lehmann provided legislative analysis on the educational rights of children with disabilities in China. She formerly served as Acting Director of Healthshare Global, a non-profit she founded in order to consult with government and non-government organizations both in the U.S. and abroad to develop health care and child welfare systems that address the needs of children and adults using innovative community-based models of care. Ms. Lehmann received her B.A. from Indiana University, her M.S.W. from the University of Pennsylvania, completed a clinical fellowship at the Yale Child Study Center, and was a Bush fellow at Yale University’s Bush Center for Child Development. She graduated cum laude from American University’s Washington College of Law and is licensed to practice law in DC and Maryland.
